Surgical Complications in Oral Implantology: Etiology, Prevention, and Management 1st Edition, Louie Al-Faraje

This exceptional new book is designed as a self-instruction guide to the diagnosis, management, and prevention of surgery-related complications in implant dentistry. It functions in two ways: First, it is a valuable resource for the implant surgeon seeking practical and succinct information about how to manage a complication in an emergency setting; and second, it can be read from cover to cover as a primer on implant surgery, from the initial consultation and treatment planning through the restorative phase of treatment. Besides addressing pre-, intra-, and postoperative implant surgery complications, the book also includes a comprehensive treatment-planning protocol that allows for the early detection of potential surgical complications and how to avoid them. Early detection of complications that are amenable to rescue therapies may reverse the fate of a failing implant or a bone-grafting procedure. Invaluable for the novice and experienced implant surgeon alike.

Dr Al-Faraje did an excellent job with this book ! I had some pretty comprehensive implant training, and I was getting this book solely to fill in the gaps in the event of a complication pre- or post surgery. This book does that part well. What I didn't expect was the overall review of proper surgical techniques and anatomy that you get as well. It is full of practical advice and guidelines that help in planning surgeries. A good buy for this type of book.

Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management 5th Edition, Stanley F. Malamed DDS

Combining essential theory with “how-to” technical instruction, this concise guide is the leading reference for basic techniques in sedation and anxiety control in the dental office. The latest guidelines from the ADA and the American Society of Anesthesiologists keep you up-to-date with the latest medical standards. Content on patient management for pediatric, geriatric, physically compromised, and medically compromised patients helps you successfully treat any patient population.

This is the 4th edition of a popular textbook presently used by many dental schools in North America. For this edition, Dr. Malamed enlisted the help of Dr. Morris Clark, who co-authored the section on inhalational sedation, as well as Dr. Kenneth Reed, who upgraded the section on medically compromised patients. In addition to the improvements engendered by these co-authors, many of the illustrations and diagrams have been updated, and overall the new edition is superior to the third edition. The primary target audiences are pre- and post-doctoral dental students wishing to learn more about sedation and anxiety control. Increasingly, other medical practitioners such as podiatrists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and even gastroenterologists are performing office sedation and they too would find this book very useful.

This is a very good book for the clinician who wants to gain an understanding of proper patient management for the sedated patient, rescue breathing for the over-sedated, and how to properly monitor your sedated patient. This is not the book for a person who wants to do just conscious sedation though. It does review conscious sedation, but not very thoroughly. I recommend this book to anyone wishing to increase their understanding of how to manage your patient during sedation as a whole.

Essentials of Health Behavior: Social and Behavorial Theory in Public Health 1st Edition, Mark Edberg

Health promotion, education, and prevention programs ultimately focus on changing health behavior. Most of these programs rely on a body of knowledge about what motivates and influences human behavior. In order to understand why people behave in healthy (or unhealthy) ways, we must first understand-why do people do what they do? Essentials of Health Behavior provides a broad introduction to the theoretical base used for most behavioral interventions in public health today. The text explores the general body of theory from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, and anthropology to understand and explain human behavior-as well as the contexts for behavior-and introduces the reader to the ways in which theory is applied to prevention and intervention efforts in the United States and around the world.

Features: Filled with real-life examples through which the reader will learn about a range of practical health promotion efforts, including smoking, cancer, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, youth violence, and obesity. Uses language that is lively and accessible making it the perfect text for the beginning public health student. Each chapter concludes with questions to engage the reader in further reflection of the topics presented. A dedicated website provides additional resources for the instructor including PowerPoints, test questions, and an instructor's manual. As part of the Essential Public Health series, Essentials of Health Behavior provides all the necessary tools to make informed judgments about how to assess a public health or social problem, implement a program, and measure the results.

Cure Tooth Decay: Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition 2nd Edition, Ramiel Nagel

Forget about drilling, filling, and the inevitable billing. Your teeth can heal naturally because they were never designed to decay in the first place! They were designed to remain strong and healthy for your entire life. But the false promises of conventional dentistry have led us down the wrong path, leading to invasive surgical treatments that include fillings, crowns, root canals and dental implants.

Now there is a natural way to take control of your dental health by changing the food that you eat. Cure Tooth Decay is based upon the pioneering nutritional program of dentist Weston Price, former head of research at the National Dental Association. Dr. Price's program proved to be 90-95% or more effective in remineralizing tooth cavities utilizing only nutritional improvements in the diet. Cure Tooth Decay is the result of five years of research and trial and error that started as one father's journey to cure his daughter's rapidly progressing tooth decay.

With Cure Tooth Decay you will join the thousands of people who have learned how to remineralize teeth, eliminate tooth pain or sensitivity, avoid root canals, stop cavities -- sometimes instantaneously, regrow secondary dentin, form new tooth enamel, avoid or minimize gum loss, heal and repair tooth infections, only use dental treatments when medically necessary, save your mouth (and your pocketbook) from thousands of dollars of unneeded dental procedures, and increase your overall health and vitality.

Cure Tooth Decay provides you with clear and easy to understand dental facts to help you make healthy, life-affirming choices about your dental health. It is about healing cavities without dental surgery or fluoride.

Essentials of Epidemiology in Public Health 2nd Edition, Ann Aschengrau

The Second Edition of this best selling text is a comprehensive introduction to principles applied in the practice of epidemiology in public health. Featuring the most current data, this revision incorporates modern ideas in epidemiological thinking that have been largely omitted in other textbooks, providing an overview that is up-to-date and thorough.

Successfully tested in the authors' own courses at Boston University and Harvard University, Essentials of Epidemiology in Public Health will familiarize readers with terminology and key concepts in the design, analysis, and interpretation of epidemiological research.

Broad in scope, the text opens with five chapters covering the basic epidemiologic concepts and data sources. A major emphasis is placed on study design, with separate chapters devoted to each of the three main analytic designs: experimental, cohort, and case-control studies.
